Hello,

I was wondering if you could share your view on the following issue. It is being said that Tikka T3 Tactical's barrel is of pretty much the same quality as the Sako barrel. Moreover, I recently heard from my local Beretta dealer that T3 Tactical's barrel is supposed to be superior to e.g. Sako 85 varmint barrel. The process of barrel selection for T3 Tactical (i.e. a sniping rifle) is meant to be more rigorous than in the case of Sako 85 Varmint.
Does it look plausible to you?

Best,

AM

Re: Sako Varmint barrel

No.

The tikka tac doesnt get any extra special barrels or testing, they all come from the same factory.

Would they use a better barrel on the cheaper gun or the more expensive gun if they even did this barrel selection?

Sako is berettas pride and joy and Tikka is their economy brand for the US market to compete with the American brands such as Rem and winchester etc.

The T3 Tac isnt a sniping rifle either, its just a tactical version of their varmint. They probably try and sell it to police forces and lets face it when do they ever snipe anything apart from in the films.

The Sako TRG is a sniping rifle and that may have a totally different barrel process than the other rifles.

Re: Sako Varmint barrel

From what I understand they use the same barrels for both.. but that may be old information. Now a Tikka guarantees 1" for 3 shots. Sako guarantees 1" for 5 shots. So there must be something different betweent the two. I think the Sako has a true Short and Long action.. where the Tikka is all long action even if .223.

Re: Sako Varmint barrel

Tikka has no promise on accuracy now where sako does. but it shouldnt have any problems with moa.

The Tikka has a one size fits all action with plastic parts.

Sako has 5 action sizes and all metal parts with a high quality finish.

i wouldnt go for the TAC if i was buying Tikka. id get the Varmint or the Sako. The TAC isnt cheap enough to warrent the downgrade from the Sako but the Varmint is.
