Without talking specific new cartridges to keep the war down what do you think in your opinion are important features for a SAM-R /DMR type semi auto rifles? Accuracy goes without saying it. They have in the past been 5.56 rifles.
For those that don't know a SAM-R/DMR is intended for mid range, further distances than a M4 but not as far out as a sniper rifle.
A support role taking out as many targets as possible as fast as possible to lessen the danger to the squad more or less. Consider mag capacity, weapon weight, energy at range.
Is a rifle with high capacity but lower energy and less weight like a AR15 5.56 better than one with less capacity and a pound or two heavier and more energy like a 308?
Would a light rifle with mag that only holds 10 rounds but has more range and energy be worth it?
If a rifle holds 25 instead of 30 but has more range and energy is it a decent trade off?
9 lb 5.56 with 30 rounds VS
9 lb ? with 25 rounds and more range and energy than the 5.56 VS
11 lb 308 with 20 rounds and even more energy.
How important is weight and mobility?
What about barrel length 16" for use with a suppressor, 18 or 20" to gain velocity?
