Gunsmithing Same bolt face as .300 Win Mag?

Re: Same bolt face as .300 Win Mag?

look at your reloading manual. It will tell you the diameter of the boltface at the beginning of the page where the introduction to the cartridge is written

7mm rem mag will work I know that, not sure of the 264 win mag

of course you could just do this

Re: Same bolt face as .300 Win Mag?

There are only three basic, widely distributed, boltface diameters:

.378" : .222Rem, .223Rem/5.56x45, etc family
.473" : 7x57, 8x57, 30/06, .308Win, etc family
.532" : All H&H Magnum family (7RM, 300WM, etc), Win & Rem Short Magnums, RUM's

There are some intermidate for 7.62x39, PPC's, 6.8SPC, etc and some larger for .416Rigby, Big Wby (.378, .460). Then .50BMG

For an easy swap to your .300WM, look for a cartridge with ~.532 casehead and COAL <3.40"

Re: Same bolt face as .300 Win Mag?

I believe that the .257 Weatherby Mag is the same as well. If you are after a hunting rig, this would fit the bill nicely out to 900+. It would also give you the laser-beam without much recoil.
