So will we be told that will be a day of solemnity or one with raucous and riotous revelry to be highlighted by urban bonfires fueled by burning police cars?

Instead of piñatas the celebrators can bash in storefront windows for dash & grab prizes inside to include but not limited to, televisions, cell phones, sundry containers of adult beverages, guns and ammo.

Will the day hearken back to the time of human sacrifices with white guys sporting MAGA hats placed on alters in town squares ready for disemboweling by African shamans?

Then there is the usual raping and pillaging. Have I left anything out?

So according to the USA Today article, since so many people have been vaccinated against the COVID, it's OK to have June 19th block parties. Bold of them to assume that everyone at a block party will be vaccinated...

Block parties okay but no-no to church services, unless they are black churches.

    Fuck juneteenth

Whatever in the hell is it even for?
On June 19th 1865, the last remaining slaves in Galveston Texas were freed by the US Army. The Emancipation Proclamation had been issued two-and-a-half years prior but it hadn't really been enforced in some places (and Texas being in the CSA, I wouldn't think they'd have particularly cared about enforcing a US law when the war had only been over for about a month). I believe there were still some slaves in Delaware and/or Kentucky still in bondage at the time, though. Anyway, "Juneteenth" was an African-American holiday in Texas for a while and it spread to other states. 47 of 'em consider it a state holiday now and there's a push to make it a federal one, which is fine, although I think Emancipation Day would be a better name since "Juneteenth" doesn't exactly tell you what it's commemmorating. Seems to have only gotten popular within the last couple years, though, 'cause I'm sure I've never heard of it until quite recently.

So the people blaming whites for everything, want a special day...that was possible because white people let them leave slavery. Have I got that right, yet whitey is still evil?

Yeah fuck you and your dumb ass "holiday"....so this means we can celebrate Christmas then..by name? Or is that still a no-no?

Its getting hard to keep these rules straight anymore.

I thought the vaccine was lagging the most in black communities and rural Southern areas????? Love how what is OK and the narrative changes daily. Clown world.

My rural county is at 24%. We love federal government mandates here.

What I find ridiculous is that most had never even heard of the holiday until the left wanted to score points on Trump for him not recognizing it randomly. Then suddenly all of the left was having Juneteenth specials on tv and tweeting about it. If you were/are fooled by this you are a special kind of sheep. Watching them do this stuff is like watching a bad infomercial.

Yeah, until 2 days ago Juneteenth was a Texas thing. F'n feds want to take everything away...

Why didn’t the Kenyan born Marxist recognize the day during the eight years he was usurping the office of the presidency?

Furthermore, why weren’t confederate monuments being destroyed or removed when he contaminated the White House with his presence?

Fucktard Joe just declared Juneteenth a federal holiday.
Most businesses don't observe any of them except labor day, memorial day, and independence day.

So he just added another one to the list to ignore.

How could you be against a holiday celebrating when the Republicans had to take up arms to tell Democrats they couldn't own Black people any more?

Since when is not giving a shit the same as opposition?

That's the same ol tired leftist ploy: you are xxx-phobic if you don't agree with their perversion of the week.

If I hate someone or something, it will become clearly apparent.

It was a joke. Riffing on how stupid it is that Democrats think they have some moral high ground when it comes to race issues, and about how you like the idea of leading them on a wet march to Atlantis.

Welp...guess that gives a certain demographic at least one reason to celebrate this weekend.

Probably should have put that in the 'Socially Unacceptable Humor' thread. Don't boo me.

Oh fucking Christ! Poor me has to fucking work on Saturday to pay for more FSA shit.🤬🤬🤬🤬

    Typical Democrat / Communist mis-information.
They are all over the news blathering on about how that was the day the last of the slaves were freed... NOPE

The Native American tribes kept slaves for a couple years after that until they were forced to let them go free... to become 3rd class serfs with no country and no rights for a long time I might add....

The new official name itself is designed to be device.

It should be the day the Republican President Abraham Lincoln announced the Democrats couldn't have their slaves anymore and sent men with guns to make sure the Democrat slave owners got the message...

funny how democrats create a holiday for the date their slaves were taken away. doh!

Yeah I keep forgetting that was about freeing slaves. Silly me.

Juneteenth pro tip: Don't wait till Saturday to buy chicken legs and watermelon. Your welcome.

I demand the Great Potato Famine be a Federal Holiday. Without that, there would have been no Irish slaves in the United States. Everyday for 3 years, everyone should be off if they can prove their Irish heritage.

What about the Asian folks who were enslaved to build the railroad out west? What about the Japanese who were placed into concentration camps during WWII.

There's been oppression in the US for as long as there's been Europeans on North American soil.

This Junewhatever is nothing more than a scam. Just one more thought. Since many of the supporters of the Demwit party don't have jobs, what difference does it make it it's a holiday or not. They're gonna wake up like it was any other day.

Well now we just need Jimmy Carter to kick off.....just icing on the cake.

Federal holiday? On a saturday? So everybody get saturday off.... this is huge...

They dont need to vaccinate anymore. They have reached the proper number of inoculations, to insure a thorough dispersion of the genetic bioweapon throughout the population.

    Um...
Nobody is alive today who was alive when there was still the ancient evil of slavery in this country.
Obviously. But it is something worth celebrating, and if doing it with a holiday makes people happy, I really don't see anything wrong with that. As is said above, it isn't like the world stops for all but a few holidays, and memorializing this is worthwhile, even if how it got its memorial isn't ideal. My opinion only, of course, but I much prefer this to something pernicious like Labor Day or May Day.

Also, who is alive from Independence Day?

If we're going to remind the impoverished blacks in this country that, supposedly, the last slaves were freed on 6/19/1865 we might also remind them that it took Republicans to force the Democrats with violence and the cost of almost 360,000 dead union WHITE boys to accomplish that feat.

I think I was the first one to make that comment in this thread. Look, African slavery was an awful chapter in the countries history. It's OK to celebrate the end of it. That doesn't mean we have to white wash how it happened, or even be OK with the ills in black culture today, much less take the responsibility for them that many would like. But seeing the end of the institution of slavery as the fulfillment of the promise of our founding ideals makes sense, and celebrating it does as well. That's all.

How about you assholes take some responsibility.

So how many of those ass-wipes would gladly give up their jobs for a lesser-qualified dark-skinned person in the name of affirmative action?
