What weight bullet would you recommend for this rifle out to 1000 meters? It has a 1:10 twist and a 24" barrel and is chambered in 308. Mostly will be used for target shooting and some hunting. Thanks

For LR target to 1000yds/1000m I would start with 175 SMK. I used to shoot a Rem 5R 30 24" and the 175s were just fine.
I shoot 155 Scenars now in a 23" GAP 1:11.25 twist an they get out to 1K very easy. Not sure how a factory Savage would like the 155s; my 5R did not like them at all..
Not sure about hunting rounds - never used my 308s for that purpose.
I run 175 SMK's over 43.6g of Varget in my Savage 10fcp hs. Good out to 1000 yds. For hunting I run 175 Berger Hunting VLD's over the same powder charge. Both loads shoot virtually identical. 2620 fps.
I was playing around with the 208 a-maxes in my 10FP it seems like a lot of fun. Anything in the 170gr family of bullets ought to get you out to 1000 without to much of an issue you could always pick up a box of federal Gold Metal Match with the 175gr smks and see how it works in your rifle then duplicate the round through reloading.
I tried several bullets in my Savage 10 FCP HS precision 308. The problem is the 1-10 twist which is really fast. Much faster than you need for something like a 175gr SMK so I went ahead and focused on longer bullets that need a faster twist. Hornady 178 & 208 Amax did well. Also the Hornady 178 BTHP. I had the best results with the Berger 190gr VLD hunting. If not for the cost these would have been an easy choice. My rifle just loved them.
