OK guys i would love your opinions on this build. I already have a couple F-class rigs, a couple Precision Semi's and what im Really looking to build is a "Do as much as possible" bolt gun. Trying to keep this build under 2k and have alot of must have's.

Build is based on the following things

- straight .308 iam FED UP with wildcats and steep shoulder cases, would also bring my cost of shooting way down

-The range i shoot at the most only goes to 600, I would like to be able to still shoot it in F/TR, so a bolt gun is a must

-Detachable mag and pistol grip

-No muzzle Brake

-As modular as possible

-Short and easy to carry as possible, would also like to use this as my whitetail/bear rifle

-Top rail (i have an ATN 6-18x65 day/night setup which i converted to rail mount.

-need to stay under 18.15 lbs for match. Scope weighs 2.6 so need to keep it under 15.5

After shooting my personal best group at 1k with my friends "out of the box" savage F-classer it definitly made me raise an eyebrow to the BAS, so here is what im thinking.

I was going to just buy 110 BA and take the barrel down to 20"
Then i ran into a Savage PC "precision Carbine" .308 / 20" fluted barrel on sale at a local shop for $500, Then stumbled on the Mcree stock, and Love the idea of having a Folder.

I Big question is has anyone compared them side by side? I love the top rail setup and the grip area on the BAS/BAT, But i also love the idea of the Mcree Folder and that is uses AI mags. and if i use the Mcree Do i want to go with a Remy?

The budget is A MUST, if i come home with another $5k rifle before the wife gets a new car she is going to beat me to death with it =D,

New to the tactical world i guess.....Enlighten me

Re: savage 10 PC VS. BAS/BAT

Here is what I'd do.

Action from here:
Stevens Model 200 - CF - Short Action - .473 Bolt Face (22-250/308) - Factory Trigger - Blued - $230.00

http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php/topic,1552.0.html

Barrel: $300.00+ probably 75-100 to have it shortened
http://www.lothar-walther.de/339.php
get a 26" for the added diameter and have it cut down to 20"

Stock: 695.00 and already comes to accept AICS or AW mags
http://www.xlrindustries.com/Standard-Series.html

+ accessories - In the options section they have folding mechanisms for the but stock as well.

Total looks like about $1500.00 If I had the money I'd build the same thing only be running a 28" 260 remington rig.

Good luck,

Re: savage 10 PC VS. BAS/BAT

If it had a fluted barrel, it was not a precision carbine, it was a Hunter max. Not that it matters, pretty much the same thing unless you have to order one and order the wrong thing.
I am not sure about changing the Stevens action to a DBM, as I believe they use the older staggered feed mag system (A very good possibility I am wrong).
I would contact McCree first to see if the Stevens would work, by the time you buy the Stevens and put a new L-W barrel, you are out more than the 10PC, although the L-W barrel is a much better barrel.
My Dad's 10PC is a VERY fine shooter as it came out of the box,but it requires far more effort to clean than my L-W barreled Model 12.

My B&C stock will be here tomorrow.

I bought a Stevens SA recently and it was a center feed.

Nice looking rig.

Re: savage 10 PC VS. BAS/BAT

Mine is a centerfeed as well. Just check the screw spacing when you buy it. Or just order the action from the site I sent you and it will be a centerfeed. And for 230.00 it's just the action so you're not waste'n your money on anything you don't need.

Good luck,

Re: savage 10 PC VS. BAS/BAT

The great thing about the Stevens is that you can get it done for $1500 and if you decide you want to shoot some comps, a 243/260/7mm-08 is only $300 away. Savage is the same deal, but you money ahead on the Stevens.

The only other thing I might add is that you will probably want to change that trigger at some point. For $100 it is worth doing.

Re: savage 10 PC VS. BAS/BAT

thanks for the input guys =D, i bought the 10PC this morning ($535). It is a PC (20" Fluted black on black)and not a huntermax, guess there was a special run for dicks sporting goods last year and this one never sold. I love that XLR stock, actually i like it better than the tacmod and its half price! should be ordered by this weekend, Just need to call them and make sure that clamp just holds the handgaurd and isnt a barrel block in front of the action. Figure total will be around 1k with the folder and 2 mags to start with. Prolly gonna order a 30" 6.5x47 or .338 fed right away and have it trued up to a switch barrel

BTW....WTF is CDI?
