So Im pretty sure Ive decided on the Savage 10 Precision Carbine over the Remington 700 SPS Tac.

Now I just need some advice on an exact build.

So what are your thoughts on this:

Savage 10 Precision Carbine:

Falcon Menance 4-14x44 MIL/EMD:

EGW Base: (Will this work?)

Need some recommended rings. Now sure if the Falcon Menace is 30mm or 1".

Harris Ultralight BRM Series S Bipod: (Will I need anything else to be able to mount this on the Savage?)

Anything else Ill need for a basic rifle setup?

Thanks

Re: Savage 10 Precision Carbine build help.

The Falcon's are 30mm. I would go with a steel base with steel rings. I use Ken Farrell 20MOA base with TPR rings. This will keep your foundation for your scope much more sturdy than aluminum. Other than that you look to be good. How far do you plan on shooting out to? reason I ask is because for just a small amount more you can get the Menace in 5-25x56 and then you could have great visibility as far as you could plan on shooting and not loose your lower magnification either

Re: Savage 10 Precision Carbine build help.

Everything you listed will work fine. The FM is 30mm. I have basically the same setup except I'm using weaver tactical rings and bases which work great they are aluminum. I just came off a 4 day 200 mile 4wheeler ride and the rifle rode in the rack carrier the whole time and never lost zero I took 2 pigs at 300 on the third day. The 10 PC has a second swivel stud for a bipod so you are good there also.

So you would recommend that base and rings?

Thats a good question about range. Im not entirely sure. Probably not far at first, but then Ill push the targets out farther as I get better and learn more. I might save up some more and get that 5-25 FM.

Awesome, thanks!

So it sounds like you are pretty happy with your 10?

Re: Savage 10 Precision Carbine build help.

Looks like a good combo. The 10PC is very accurate and precise. I've shot several 5 shot groups @ 100 well under .5 MOA. Usually I screw up and cause fliers.

I have the same EGW base on my 10PC as well. I cut the front 3/4" off so I can run low rings and clear the scope bell while having the scope far back enough for good eye relief.

I'm running a Leupold MK4 4-14.5x50 and it works well, but I could stand to have more magnification past 300-400 yards if you're into that. I will consider up to 20x power for my next scope (also probably a NF or somethng else with MIL/MIL instead of MIL/MOA)

I'm going to add a Karsten cheek piece as another required addition. Already added 9-round SSS mag, a longer bolt handle, but I found the factory BT handle is just as good.

Well I would recommend a 20MOA steel base. Those rings and base are the best deals on the market IMO for steel. I like to use steel base and rings just because it will take more of a beating and it will be more accurate. Aluminum is soft compared to steel. Aluminum will work okay I know but I don't like to steer away from it when doing precision shooting it's best to invest a few extra dollars on the tougher stuff. And yes for the extra $75 or so, I think the 5-25 Menace would be best simply because you won't find yourself wanting more magnification later on down the road. It's a one time buy that will definitely do any job you ask it to. BTW, I use TPS rings not TPR, I dunno how i typed that wrong I just noticed I did that. My bad.

Re: Savage 10 Precision Carbine build help.

I have a 10PC with a Millett TRS 1. I went with Badger 20MOA base and medium rings. My thinking was that these will serve me well even if I decide to move out to further ranges or upgrade my optics. Instead of a karsten cheek piece, I opted for a Eagle butt pack.
