I have an opportunity to get a Savage 10P-SR at a ridiculous price. I know Remington OK, I know nothing about Savage. What's the downside of this rifle? Stock may need replacing? I would use it for precision shooting out to 500-750 yards.

I know the stock on Rem is often lacking (when not the HS Precision, etc). The Savage is a regular stock, not an "accustock" (for whatever that means). Are there any issues with the regular stock?

Most of the factory stocks are the cheap tuperware stocks depending on the model. ( i can not keep them all strait) there is nearly as many aftermarket stock options as there are for rem for about the same money. The acutrigger is very nice if the rifle you are asking about has one but a lot of people dont like them because they are different. I like them because i can have a " safe " light weight trigger. Also as said above savage is the no gunsmith rifle

The 10P-SR has a beavertail, varmint-style non-Accustock...very similar (if not identical) to that found on new production 12FVs.

Another way to look at it is its the same design as the Accustock, without the bedding block. As such its not the regular tupperware junk, but money is probably well spent to replace it as funds allow.

It has a smooth barrel nut (have to use an action wrench or dremel the smooth nut off and replace with a notched nut whenever you first change barrels) and has the bottom bolt release (somewhat fewer stock/chassis options), but it should be a fine rifle. I really like the barrel profile/length/weight of the 10P-SR...Savage's "medium contour" is pretty much everybody else's "light varmint" contour.

If they made it in 6.5 Creedmoor, I'd be throwing money at them (so I wouldn't have to go through the time/trouble/expense of swapping myself).

Google can point you toward a way to convert bottom bolt release rifles to top bolt release, and I don't think its too awful difficult or costly (could be wrong).
