Just picked this gun up yesterday. loaded 250gr. sierra spbt bullets atop 85 gr. of RL 22. the gun was previously owned and had about 30 rds. threw it the last owner said. i put a leupold mk4 8.5-25 scope on it .cleaned it well and checked all the screws to make sure the action was tight. The gun shot fantastic!! bullets were touching each other at 100 meters.very loud but does not kick at all. i am waiting for some H1000 to come in. i understand that that is a great powder for it. have other people seen the same from this gun? what loads have you guys tried in this gun?

I don't have the BA, but I just built my 338RUM on a older Savage 110LA. Shilen barrel, choate stock and so on... I just shot in the 600yd match Sunday at UNSC in Eatonville, WA. She pulled a 3.72" group at 600. Yours should do the same. From 200yds sight in, came up 10.5MOA, and left .5MOA for drift and wind but group still hit 3" right of bull.

Mine loves the 250 Berger OTM over 104gr US869, GM215M primer. You'll have a little edge being a Lapua. Try the OTM's or SMK's. Mine liked 869 better than retumbo and 1000. It grouped pretty good with IMR 4831 too with 250's. You'll just need to play with different powders to see what your really likes.

Try to get out at least 300+ yds to really see your groups open or close up with test loads. Its spendy to load for these 338's, 100yds in my opinion is way too close for load development.

yours may be different, but I have 28" barrel, 4 groove ratchet rifling. Does not like the 285 Hornady match or 300 SMK's. It may just be my setup. I've heard most Lapuas love the 300's, might be worth testing out.
