Hi guys,

I am interested in purchasing a Savage 93 BSEV. I have had a look at one, ans they are a great little rifle, the stocks look great and are comfortable, excellent trigger etc.

I usually don't like Savage rifles however this one is worth looking at!

The only thin I do no like about it is the 'flimsy' magazine system/bottom metal. Does anyone know of an after market bottom metal kit/magazine system to suit this rifle in 17HMR?

hahaha hey alex, i just noticed your a member here too....small world, hows things?

if you ever wanna borrow mine for a weekend go for it mate, i dont use it much now... its not the BSEV, its the BTVS (thumbhole) but if you just want to get your head around how they shoot, mines boring accurate, so i dont think that part of the rifle will have changed that much.

i DO like the look of the new savage TRs! but my next .22 will be the anschutz 64 MSR... when i find one. ha

give us a bell anytime your keen, and we'll head for another shot mate.

cheers, jimi

I have the Marlin 917VR myself and I love the .17 HMR. It's probably my favorite caliber. I've only heard good things about the Savage 93 too. The ammo is more expensive than a .22LR, but to me it's totally worth it. If you're going to get that Savage and you're sticking with 200 yards or less, definitely prepare to raise your bars as any decent .17 HMR has great accuracy.

I like my savage 93. The regular bottom metal is sturdy enough for the plinking I do with it. Either way, I am sure you would enjoy it.

YEh the bottom metal is fine

I know the mag release looks flimsy, but its actually pretty sturdy

Theres no way that you will be able to flex the metal to the point of breaking, or weakening it, just by pulling back on it to release the mags.

Flimsy looking yes... but it functions well

Re: Savage 93 BSEV 17HMR

I've got the BV model. I haven't seen any issues with the system that is part of the stock. I bought 2 additional mags and one of them acts funny--it's difficult to load the first round from it sometimes, I think the spring in it is uneven. That's just an individual mag issue though, no issues with the other mags or the overall system.

Re: Savage 93 BSEV 17HMR

just a little tip on the magazines, put a drop of crazy glue on the bottom of the magazine plate. I've had two magazine plates come loose on hunts and lost the spring and follower...made for a lousy hunt single loading. I've since glued them in place. If I need to take them off, I just scrape the glue off to dissassemble the mag.
