Savage 99 given to me today!!!!

Work at a local gun shop as a side job to suppert my gun habit. We have a regular customer is a vintage gun nut like me. A couple of months ago we were talking about rifles we would like to have but don't, his list was much shorter than mine. I mentioned how much I liked Savage 99's and would love to have one in 308 or 300 Savage. He told me he'd keep his eyes open for one as they have gotten stupid expensive on Gun Broker. Yesterday he walked in with a 99E in 308 that's in good shape and handed it to me. I looked it over and asked him what he wanted for it. He said "it's yours". I then crapped my self and asked him if he would call me wife and tell her as she would never believe me. My camera is at work so I can't post any pictures till then. Don't know what I did to deserve this, but need to start doing good works as I am probably in a Karma deficit right now.

I've got a 99 carbine in 308. It was my favorite deer rifle for 10 or 12 years when I was young. If I had a choise between a Win 94 or Sav. 99 the 99 would win every time. You do need to do some good works for sure as you just got a blessing.

I know he's a Bourbon man so.....Bookers or Basil Haydens? Any suggestions? Mostley a Jim Beam guy, more for effect than taste.

You are truly a blessed man. The Savage 99 is my favorite "all around" deer rifle. I have several, but out of all of my rifles, the 99 in .308 w/180gr. GameKings is STILL my "woods gun". That .300 Savage (basically a precursor to the .308win.) is a deer slayer as well.It is good to be loved.....

probably one of the most underrated lever guns ever. My dad bought me a 99 in 300Sav for my 9th birthday for $75 with an old Redfield Bearcat 4x scope. Still have it and wouldn't part with it for anything

99's are classic American deer rifles! I've had a few over the years and am always looking for more. Now go make the required tang crack repair that all 99 owners are indoctrinated with!

I love stories like that. That is really cool that he did that and you need to something cool in return. Do some research on him to see what he really likes but isn't easy to get and go find it.

Looks like it's been restocked but the rifling is bright and sharp. May end up getting some better looking wood, but will probably leave it be and just put meat in the freezer with her. Thinking 130gr Barnes TSX will be a good choice for round and will probably put a low fixed power scope on it.
