I have a buddy that is new to shooting, but is enjoying it and wanting to get a bolt gun. He likes the shootability, look, and modularity of my Eliseo RTM rifle and T2K, but doesn't want to spend that much, but is willing to spend a decent amount.
He's taken interested to the Savage BA series. I know there are other very good custom options in this price range, but he wouldn't have the modularity of a switch barrel. I have discussed with him the pros and cons of this and the option of getting a dedicated short action target rifle and a cheaper and lighter weight magnum for hunting if he took an interest to that.
With that said I am entertaining the modularity option and my question is: Would one be able to run short action cartridges in the long single stack mag with some feed lip tuning and grabbing a standard bolt face for the bolt? From what I can tell, I don't see why not, but I don't have experience with running a short action in the AI mag. Don't know if it would try to nose dive, etc. If it is doable, he could have the modulariy that he's looking for in his price range.
Thanks for the help.
