Guys,

I'm deciding on a starting point for my first real tactical/long range hunting rifle build. I was looking at Savage models that will get me going and I've run across something that I'd like to clear up before I spend money where it could be better spent later. For Savage detachable box mags, I've noticed two types.

The rifles I'm deciding on are:

Savage 10FCPXP (Dicks Special)
-Heavy fluted barrel
-Chambered in .308
-Metal mag catch (4rd)
-Large tac bolt knob
-Throwaway stock
-$650

A metal release that sticks with the bottom metal:

and

Savage 11VT (Dick's Special) with the cheap scope
-Heavy barrel
-Chambered in .308
-Plastic detach mag (4rd)
-Throw away stock and scope
-$480

A plastic release integrated into the magazine:

The first one is clearly more solid and performs each time, while the plastic can be tough to make a positive connection. I wanted to know if I plan on keeping the factory bottom metal for a while, should I get the nicer of the two up front. Basically, which one is going to be able to stay with the rifle longer?

I want the one that will require less upgrading down the road and the one that will fit into the most aftermarket stocks without a lot of modification.
