I'm on the fence about picking one of these up and was hoping some folks in this community would be willing to help me out. My main concern is accuracy. Most of what I've researched on the web talks about people using cheaper grade hunting ammo around 150 grains and not being very impressive accuracy wise, but decent. If I do purchase one, I would immediately drop it in a b&c medalist tactical stock. I was wondering if anybody has any first hand experience with its accuracy using heavier factory match grade ammo like FGMM, Hornady, HSM, etc. in the 168 and 175 Sierra Match King varieties. I'd like to have a sub moa gun out of the box without having to swap barrels right away. Also, do you think leaving the iron sights on the rifle will have a negative effect on the barrel harmonics/accuracy. Target/tactical shooting to 800 meters is the plan. Thanks.

We got sub MOA with my friends rifle. He has the front sight still on it. Doesn't seem to affect anything. We shot home load 175 SMK. didn't have any issues. His is in a different stock though. Don't know what it is. And had a SWFA fixed 12x scope. Shout out to 500yrds and had about 2.5-3.5 groupings. He also had a muzzle brake on it also. From Ross Schuler.

I've had very good luck with 155AMax and 168SMKs, but on one (of two) builds I've done it just didn't like 178AMax - it did fine on deer, but on paper it wasn't up to par with MOA-ish I was getting with 155s and 168s.

It is a factory barrel afterall - I would expect around 1 MOA accuracy with handloads and 2 MOA with factory ammo. If you find something that shoots better than that - awesome!

Bottom line - Savage hog hunter is pretty hard to beat at the price point - shooting as it is or just as a donor.

So I went ahead and picked one up and dropped it in a B&C Medalist. I was rushed for time and after the initial sight in, I was able to shoot a 5/8 inch three shot group and a 3/4 inch five shot group at 100 yds using 168 grain FGMM. So far I'm very pleased. Thanks for the help.
