I've got a new Savage mark II .22lr with the 1-5/8 ejection port. My question is what twist should I go with for a custom barrel? Also, who makes .22lr barrels for a mark II? I would search this, but I'm on my iPod and it's a PITA. Thanks guys.

Call Benchmark Barrels. I am going to have them do a 17hmr barrel for my Mark II TR. Talk to Chris and he will help you figure out what you want as far as twist!!

22lr is usually in 1-16" twist says Lilja, Broughton, Krieger, and a few other manufacturers I spoke to on this subject recently. The problem with the MkII is that the barrels are pressed and pinned into the action which means that in order to replace it, you must have the action threaded and I'm not sure if there is enough metal there to support the long heavy barrels. I'm no expert on the subject but you may find this to be a costly interest/project in the long run. Hope this helps
