Will be hunting varmints to 200 and paper/steel up to 700. Is this a good starting point? I already have a 30P-1 for it.

Re: Savage Mod10 Precision Carbine 223 - good choice?

looks good for out of the box usable - reasonable stock, trigger and twist
Rem really does not offer an out of the box option
someone is advertising used in a bunch of places for 600 but only wants to do local - one thing to remember about new/used factory rifles - some of these rifles come off the assembly line "lucky" precise- lets say capable of sub 1/2 moa with careful handloads (these are the ones folks will brag about) most come out of the factory "good" but not exceptional - lets say 90% of standard savage will be capable of sub moa with careful handloads

if someone falls on hard times and has to sell the lucky exceptional factory rifle they will not need to do it on the internet - someone who has seen the performance will take it for the price

so IMO if you are looking to win the factory rifle "lottery" you need to buy it new - if "standard" performance for the best price is what you are looking for than a used savage is a great value as they have poor resale vs remington

this is a fairly new model so it may take some patience to find a used one for the right price - but if you go new be prepared to take a sizable hit on resale

for an economical load 55 gr to 500yds, beyond that SMK 69 gr will be worth the extra $$
