I currently own a Remington Model 700P LTR 308. At 100 yards I'm getting around 0.5 to .75 MOA accuracy. The accuracy out to 300 yards opens up and is so so (about 2 MOA). I'm considering trading it for a Savage law enforcement .308 model 10 FCP (either HS Precision or MacMillan stock). I just became a Savage fan when I recently bought a 22-250 VLPDBM varmint rifle. The rifle is very accurate (0.3 MOA at 100 yards and 0.5 MOA at 300 yards). I am very pleased with the Savage. Does anyone have experience with Savage law enforcement models. Did I get lucky with the varmint rifle? I am looking at 308 and shooting mostly 300-500 yards.

My model 10PC always gave me 1/2 to 3/4 MOA out to 500 on paper. Never shot paper out past that, only steel but it shot good. It now has a Shilen .260 rem barrel on it, but I kept the .308 barrel because it was a good shooter.
LTR's generally shoot good though. What loads are you using? Is it bedded?
I'm using 168 gr SMK's and 44.5 grains Varget, Lapua brass. I'm going to take it back to the range and do a good load workup on it, which I didn't do before. Before, I loaded up 3-4 different Varget loads and went with the best. I may be able to tighten up the groups a little more with a better load. My 700P has a long throat so I am not able to play with bullet seating off the lands. The closest I can get to the lands is about .060 while still having enough of the bullet in the case neck. I've read somewhere you should have at least the length of your specific caliber (.308) of the bullet seated into the case neck.
