First post here, looking for a little guidnace on my savage model 10 PC chambered in 223. I have had feeding issues with this gun since day one when using hard nosed bullets suck as the sierra matchkings and bergers. When using hornady vmax or other tipped bullets the gun seems to feed just fine. I recently upgraded the gun with CDI bottom metal with the accuracy international 10 round magazines. It appears I am still having the same issue feeding hard nosed bullets especially when using longer length hand loads. The bullets exit the magazine go up the feed ramp and hit low on the face of the barrel and just miss chambering. If I back off the overall length a bit and use tipped bullets like the vmax the gun cycles just fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I might try to fix this issue? I would like to be able to shoot the longer hard nosed bullets as they are the most accurate out of this rifle.

Thanks in advance for any help

Sorry for the late reply but hoping you got this fixed.

I had the same issue but sorted it wit a new bottom metal and mag combo from Atlas Worxs out of Australia.

I informed th smith of the issue and he tested it and adjusted until it worked... Seems like it was feeding low.

Pretty sure yours will be sorted if you take a photo and send it to the person who did the inletting.

Try bending the forward portion of the AI mags back a bit. Just enough to let the round start pushing up/forward a little sooner. Had to do it with my .308 to get the feeding right with my 10pc barreled action in a mcrees chassis.

223 feed issues

I had a similar issue with my savage 10pc in 223. Mine has CDI bottom metal in a Manners T4A stock. I found my issue was that bolt wouldn't cycle far enough back to catch the round. I ended up cutting about a 1/4 inch of the bolt stop and haven't had issues since. I believe you could just replace the bolt stop with one from a 10pc in 308. I think it is about a $15.00 part but the bolt would have excessive travel while cycling it. Tonight when I get home from work I can shoot you a couple of pictures if you'd like.
