New to F-class and just picked up one of these rifles chambered in .308, but in using a Hornady OAL gauge with a 175 SMK, I got a measurement of 2.755 to the lands! Does this sound right? Magazine length on my DPMS gets loaded to 2.800, so naturally, this seems really wrong...

Opinions? I'd like to do some loading soon, so any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Savage model 12 F/TR: is my OAL correct?

I have this rifle, a few years old at this point. I load to 2.800" OAL, 175 SMK, IMR 4064 45.0 grains (book max load, work up your own!). This was literally my first workup, starting a few grains under. I shoots well under 1 MOA, so i figured why bother tinkering any more.

2.755 sounds very off. Sounds like either your chamber or your OAL gauge, or your use of the OAL gauge is off. Of the three, the chamber is least likely to be bad from the factory, but you never know...

Maybe try shooting some off the shelf .308? If they dont chamber/shoot well, then maybe start questioning the rifle.
