New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
lol. dude at one time we have all dealt with them. if you go back 2-4 pages you will see the latest post about them. slow. painfully slow. you have plenty of other options. what is it they have that you think you need?
Not sure exactly what I want to do. I started off thinking about ordering a 6.5x284 Long Range Hunter but seems these are backordered and wait time is going to be long.I researched the .260 and I believe this is all I need in a 6.5 so now I am weighing my options. I have a Stevens 200 in .243 I picked up as a Coyote gun, and a FCP 10 in .308. I am not crazy about rebarreling the FCP since I shoot it so often and I like the idea of two sticks in two diffrent calibers. Building from the ground up is the way I am leaning if I can pick up a cheap used Savage and recycle the action. I am looking for a reputable Savage parts dealer with reasonable customer service and lead times.
I just bought a barrel from Midway for my 10FP to convert from .308 to 6mm BR. If you buy the action wrench and barrel nut wrench you can change barrels easily. You can get the barrels pre-theaded and chambered. Thats the beauty of the Savage design.
Give Northland shooter supply a call. He's over on savageshooters forum. He's got actions, pre-fit barrels, the whole nine yards.
Or, Savage is coming out with a .260 and a 6.5 Creedmoor this year. They offer it in the hunting model and the target models. This would be my choice but it's not for everybody.
This one comes with a fluted 24" barrel and accu-stock, Keep this stock or change it out, but the barrel and action are worth the money: Savage
Since your looking at a Stevens or Savage contact Jim Briggs of Northland Shooting Supply. He is also on the savageshooters.com forum. He has Stevens & Savage actions for sale as well as barrels from several manufacturers available.

I say use the Stevens 200 you already have unless you can spend the money for a new action.
I am building a custom rifle on a Stevens 200 action. I picked up the Barrel from Midway along with the appropriate tools. I was going to run the 260 Rem but decided to stick with 308 Win because of brass selection.
They have both barrels in stock right now just look for any parts for Savage model 10/11.
Northland has some actions in stock right now if that's what you want (but they are more than I paid for the whole Stevens 200 I have now [$249 @ Academy Sports]).
