Savage QC Sucks

I got a Savage 110 Precision in 300 PRC a couple weeks ago. The scope base was not threadlocked, the back 3 screws were hand tight, the front screw was over torqued and the hex head stripped. You'd think they would assign someone other than a 4 year old to do QC . . .

Anyone else have this happen recently?

It’s pretty standard practice to check the base screws on any factory rifle. Savage isn’t known for being the most high quality rifle brand, just for relatively consistent accuracy. While you have it off, check to see if it is flush on the action. My savage FCPSR needed the base bedded because it wasn’t. It’s pretty simple to do with some JB weld and degreaser

Good advice ... for any screws ... on any new rifle.

QC in the mass produced firearms industry is nothing more than making sure the damn thing goes bang without blowing up. Sure, there are certain things over that but it isn't anything nearly as detailed as what you (and I) want it to be.
The largest QC mark for the company I worked for was warranty returns. The beans made on the front end diminish with anything over a certain earmark for repairs on returns that shouldn't have gone out the shipping door.
One cannot even believe the test targets sent out with many manufacturer's guns. One case that I know of (not where I worked) packed test targets in the box that were from one above average gun. They would stack twenty targets and shoot one five-shot group.

It's frustrating because my previous savages have had the bases thread locked and torqued to spec. I'm planning on bedding the new rail that I get.

Sounds like a normal savage to me.

Here this about Savage all the time. Then the screws are tightened and they go get sub-MOA for less than everyone else on the regular and shut up.

I guess we are spoilt here in southern hemisphere.
Beretta seem to be more focused here for Tikka.
Maybe higher sales?
You guys have more local options for all kinds of other things though.

Only factory rifles I will buy. My wife and I have been to Finland twice in the last two years. Everything is better there, the food, the people, the cities, etc.
The socialism

This is like the slow delivery ARC thread and I'm a firm believer in this. You get to pick two of three options, Good, Fast, and Cheap. There may be very little difference in a 1 in 100 or 1000 Savage in terms of accuracy etc and a custom rifle. The difference comes in QC of the custom rifle. When you buy a premium or custom rifle you're also paying for the confidence in the name.

The socialism
At least they only provide their socialist benefits to citizens
Unlike a certain country I love and served that's giving it all away to anyone with a pulse that unlawfully shows up..

Oh yeah Savage sucks
I bought a weather warrior a few years ago with a stripped action screw, CS told me to get f@!#$d

It is a junk design. Even if made to quality standards, it is still junk.

Every time I build a savage type action, I tell myself "never again".

I will still build:
1) Rem 700
2)Win M70 pre 64
3)1898 Mauser
4) Mosin Nagant
5) Arisaka

Some Actions to avoid:
1) Sav 110
2) Win 1885 falling block
3) Savage 1899 lever action

Oh you bought a Savage and one of the base screws was loose?? What else? Did it also have a heavy bolt lift? And fed from its magazine poorly? And extraction sucked too? Shocker.

And yet for all their faults, they seem to shoot okay.
Still in business, and seem to have quite a loyal following.
They must be doing enough to be still going.

I sent a lengthy scathing letter to savage after they sent me a 300prc with chiped hs precision stock. Surprise surprise, they didn't even respond after my ffl shipped it back.

Learned my lesson, and built a custom instead.
