Savage TR in 17HMR

Re: Savage TR in 17HMR

I would like to hear some more on the TR in 17hmr also. the only one we could find local is a 17hmr but I have been holding out for a 22lr. Mostly for cost of shooting. We have a Savage 17hmr synthetic with Stainless Heavy Barrel and It's my youngest sons rifle and has been a shooter so I am guessing the TR would be as good if not better. We also have a few Ruger 10/22's also and they can get hungry for the ammo. At least with the bolts it slows my son down and has helped his concentration. So I figure we can get the TR in 22lr thread the barrel and it will be all kinds of fun. It is that or the 17hmr's superior accuracy

Re: Savage TR in 17HMR

I just purchased a TR for my brother as a graduation gift. We mounted a cheap scope that I had laying around and took it out yesterday. He was holding ~2moa @ 100 yards (it was only his second time shooting a rifle). I shot 3 5 shot groups with it at 100 yards... 2 were just under 1 moa... the other was ~0.6 moa. I'm very impressed with the gun. This is the first 17hmr that I've ever shot, and I do like it! I wasn't sure about the TR at first; however, after playing with it at the local store, I was hooked. The stock is very comfortable for an adult (and a big one at that... both of us are 6'4"). I slipped a bill under the barrel and the barrel seems to be completely free floated. The trigger is very nice (compared to other stock rifle triggers that I've tried).

I will be purchasing one in 22LR when my dealer gets them in stock... We both were very impressed with the gun... can't wait to get it out some more!
