So I took apart my SW M&P15-22 tonight to have the barrel threaded, and whilst doing so I realized what Id like to do...

But I only want to do it if I dont have to pay another $200. That would make the barrel around 10". Im not very familiar with SBR rules so...

Does the suppressor count as barrel length when it is on?

And can I make a barrel extension that would keep it legal if the can is not on?

Re: SBR .22 Question

Barrel extension, flash suppressor, or can counts as barrel length when permanently attached.

If you can remove the extension without tools (like if it's just threaded on) when the extra length doesn't count as barrel length.

Permanent attachment is usually done by drilling and pinning the attachment, then welding over the pin and grinding the weld smooth, then refinishing.

Your other option is to get either an AR pistol, pistol marked lower, or virgin stripped lower and build a pistol. Then you can have a threaded 10" barrel and the extension, no extension, or can as you like.
