I have yet to shoot the Scar 17. Is the recoil really as low as I am told. I am about to order a LWRC REPR but I am having a thought about the Scar 17 or the LMT 308.. I love the Scar 16! Any owners of the 17 or if it is your main service weapon I would love to hear from you. Thanks

Re: Scar 17 recoil ?

Thanks so much, you wouldnt by chance have range time with the LMT or LWRC to capre it to would you. I kknow they are really all three very different rilfes but its hard when you dont know. I am going to use mine on a daily basis as a defensive marksman with my employer so it needs to be what just right. I heard the LMT in the exact config that the British took is perfect in every way but LWRC is my personal fav and it what carry for my main rifle now but I ma moving into a more long range security position.

I've owned an LMT and I ditched it for the SCAR. The LMT recoils much more than the SCAR- I replaced the PWS with a Gemtech Bi-Lock on mine, which did intensify the recoil a little, but the decrease in face-pounding noise was worth it. It still recoils far less than the LMT.

Re: Scar 17 recoil ?

Let me caveat the LMT versus SCAR discussion.

LMT factory config versus SCAR 17 factory config, the LMT will recoil a bit more because it has a A2 flashhider instead of a comp like the SCAR. However, if you put a comp on the LMT, it's more or less the same. If you are shooting prone, the LMT will stay on target better. Shooting off hand, however, the SCAR 17 is definitely easier to shoot than the front heavy LMT.

I would also say that the LMT is a more consistent weapon than the SCAR 17. The SCAR 17 has significant POI shifts after you start putting round to it. With the LMT, we can set a 12x12 plate out at 800m and hit it every time with M118LR. SCAR is just not as consistent.

All in all, SCAR 17 is a decent weapon, but I think the features don't really warrant the 3k plus price tag that I see.

Re: Scar 17 recoil ?

When I purchased my SCAR 17s, the first thing that had to go was the muzzle brake, recoil or not. I posted a thread on FNforums.com asking the same question about recoil management using a MITER flash hider from AAC. I had many positive responses with the MIETR so I purchased one to try. Since they are so popular on these rifles, I figured, I coudl alwys resell it if recoil was bad.

To me: there was really no felt change between the two. Now I have not fired my SCAR much at all, but I did notice a huge sound difference and little if any recoil impulse change. I think the gas system the SCAR 17s uses has got to contribute to that. The AR10s, DI has much more recoil, and they were heavier as well.
