Did FN discontinue the step down barrel from the Scar 20s .308 civilian version? I know that the Scar 20s 6.5 creedmoor features the heavy barrel and no step barrel but I am not sure if this is applicable to the .308 as well. I think I saw a .308 20s with no step down barrel on gunbroker and was hoping if someone can confirm if this is the new direction FN is taking going forward.

I believe the new 308 contour will be the same as the new 6.5. The twist on the 308 has also been changed from 1-12 to a faster 1-10. I will know more Monday when my new SCAR 20 arrives.

Edited to add, believe the weight has gone from 11 to 11.6 pounds In the new spec sheets.

Yes, the new SCAR 20S in 7.62 NATO now have a straight contour. The new contour also indicates a 1:10" twist in 7.62mm. The "step down" contour is identical to the Mk20 barrel profile, including the 1:12" twist rate. It has been replaced by the new barrel profile.

6.5 Creedmoor has the same straight external contour with 1:8" twist.

Weight did go up slightly.

See the red arrows in the attached picture. That’s the step down barrel.
