Just checking to see if anyone out there runs the Ultra Short on their standard sized bolt rifles (if that makes sense). I understand these optics are generally preferred for shorty platforms and gassers, but I'm looking to mount one on my backup match rifle.

Thank you,

Mark

Yep, love the Ultra Shorts!

While my 520US calls my SRS home, I ran it on my R700 for awhile and loved the balance it provided over the 5-25 ATACR. Now I look for more compact optics on all of my rifles... That rifle ended up with a NF 4-16. The only way I will accept long is if its light like the AMG.

The US's are really a more modern architecture, aside from being shorter. Kahles and NF have followed S&B's short design. They do balance nicely, and work great with some short bolt guns. Desert Tech shooters are moving to S&B, NF and Kahles for sure. Getting on top at 11- 13 inches is good stuff.

As I´m in the market for an "all-around-optic" for my upcoming "all-utility-rifle" I want to ask some questions here if it is ok so.
I´m pretty new to the scope world also. :giggle:

The 5-20US leaves very short space for mounts I guess.
How did you mount it and which mounts did you use?
(Especially on a Pica rail.)

And second is about the reticle:
I do want to have the option for a fast shot with just using the reticle (holdover and windage), but don´t know if those christmas tree reticles are 1. "overloaded" and 2. worth the more money.

What do you think about the reticle options and which one did you chose and why?

Any answer or info will be appreciated by me.

I run both the non-illuminated 5-20 as well as the illuminated 5-20. The illuminated model is a bit tight on space, but I have Hawkins Precision rings on all of mine (no problem with fit) as well as the Accuracy 1st scope level. As I said, getting both the level and the rings on the illuminated model is a tight fit, but doable. If you use the level built into the Hawkins precision rings, then no problem at all.

I certainly feel the Christmas tree reticles are worth the money. However that is more of a subjective value opinion. They provide a benefit when needing to use hold overs, can can be faster when your shooting is complex and you have multiple targets. And if you hold you wear down the scope less since your not dialing as often.

If you need to get adjusted to using a hold reticle - maybe consider the GenIIXR instead of something as busy as the Tremor3 or H59? There are a lot of options available for different Christmas tree reticles, so you should be able to find something you can use.

Thank you sir,
for your detailed and informative answer.

I appreciate that very much.

Unfortunately the Gen2XR reticle seems no longer to be offered by S&B.
