Im having some trouble trying to work out the differences between the S&B 5-25x56 and the newer Gen 2 series?? I know that the gen 2 is in 2nd focal plane if im correct? And the difference between cw and ccw?
any help with this would be great thanks

Re: Schmidt and bender???

Not sure on the difference on the Gen 2 (or is it a Gen2 reticule?) but:

cw = clockwise
ccw - counter (or anti) clockwise

refers to the rotation direction of the turrets.

cw is normal on European scopes
ccw seems more prevalent on US scopes

They both do the same job - I guess it just depends on what you are used to/prefer as to which you'd spec.

Re: Schmidt and bender???

Gen 2? What is that? Never heard the term used to describe new scopes. They do have some new scopes coming out but the 5-25 is the same great scope it's been. As mentioned they used to offer a Gen II reticle but no longer.

They do make some scopes in SFP as well as FFP.

Barsa covered the CW and CCW. I have one of both and it doesn't effect performance. Just the way you turn the elevation knob.

Re: Schmidt and bender???

If it is the reticle that you're asking about, I tried to order a S&B with a Gen2 Mildot reticle at the start of the year and was told that they were "on hold" as there was some legal issue about the rights of use?

Bottom line is I still can't get one from the UK Distributor.

Only place I have seen them advertised with the Gen 2 Mildot in the past was Euro Optics. He still has them up as of today, also the Gen 2 XR:

Re: Schmidt and bender???

Gen 2 is referring to the reticle, not the scope itself. The gen 2 reticle, including the xl and xr, are Premier Reticle reticles, and no longer offered by Schmidt and Bender now that Premier Heritage is selling their own scopes. All Police Marksman II's are first focal plane.

Re: Schmidt and bender???

The only I noted about Gen 2 as mentioned was the reticle.

With the Schmidt and Bender line, you need to research carefully what you want, and how you want the scope configured. If it is your first precision scope, the CW or CCW is likely mute as you can train yourself, however if you have lots of trigger time behind a leupold MK4 or the like, having the turrets move the same way is a huge plus for when you are tired or under stress. Also you need to research the reticle options to which is best for you. Same with the option of single or double turn turret and illumination. As noted the PMII are all FFP. That all being said, I am incredibly happy with my S&Bs and would use nothing else....

Re: Schmidt and bender???

I have a S&B 5x25x56 with the Gen II XR reticle with CCW turrets.
I love the reticle and wish it were available on their other scopes.
The CCW is more popular in europe. The turrets are available in either Mil's 1/4 clicks or in MOA 1/4 clicks.
The Gen II XR reticle is in Mil measurements, so it would be more convenient to have your turrets in Mils also. My turrets are MOA so I need to know both conversions depending on whether using the reticle or turrets. After a while it is no big deal but it would be easier with all Mil's.
It is very hard to find the CCW Mil turrets with the Gen II XR so good luck. I eventually gave up and took what I have from Alex at Euro OPtics.

Re: Schmidt and bender???

Best scopes around hands down!! After using them all I am beyond happy with S&B.
