Anyone have any experience with these? Is it really that much brighter than say a 5-20 ultra short or some other optic in a similar mag range?

One of my favorite scopes was the Hensoldt 4-16x56 and I almost pulled the trigger on one of Schmidt's Ultra Brights but to be honest, having ran so many scopes it has been very difficult for my eyes to discern a difference between a 56mm objective and 50mm objective scope and in some cases the 50's actually looked better than some 56's in low light. For example, the Schmidt 5-20 and Vortex AMG give up very little to the Minox ZP5 5-25x56 in low light, is the Minox better, yes, but not by leaps and bounds. Maybe younger eyes would be able to discern more of a difference but for me the difference is not enough that would cause me to not consider 50mm scopes, whereas the 44's and 42's have shown to struggle more in these situations. Obviously a larger objective is going to have a larger exit pupil at any given magnification, but their are ways that manufacturer's can make scopes that look better in low light even with smaller objectives. I've had some discussion with ILya about this but would love to learn more. I've been wanting to see a similar comparison to what you are asking noob.
My apologies, I didn't mean to infer I owned a Henny, just that the 4-16x56 was one of my favorite designs, mostly because of the large 56mm objective in a "compact" package. I came close to buying one on several occasions but the lack of zero stop kept me away, now they have a model with a ZS but there are other scopes that have drawn my interest, mostly due to reticle. I have also come to realize that not all scopes are created equal, some have different nuances and design attributes that my eyes tend to prefer over others. In my never ending obsession to find the "perfect" scope for me I have come to realize that it is very difficult for my eyes to tell the difference between 56mm and 50mm objectives when comparing top tier glass in low light. I understand the exit pupil with a 56mm objective is going to be larger, but how our eyes compensate for low light is pretty amazing and while a sensor can discern the different light levels not everyone's eyes can do the same. That being said, revisiting the Hensoldt ZS 4-16x56 FF LT has piqued my interest once againDid you have the Hensoldt at the same time as any of the S&B's and can pm me about the pro's/ cons? I've been taking a hard look at those as well since the LT/CCW model can be had for a decent price but just never got around to purchasing one.
