Alright everybody,

I am considering doing a trade for an ARC Nucleus with a Barloc. Looking to get schooled on the Barloc and opinions on the Nucleus. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have never messed with a Barloc or any other barrel swap setups.

Thanks,
Craig

I’m not trying to be rude, but both of these topics were discussed ad nauseam multiple times recently. Have you any questions that weren’t covered previously?

Not being rude at all. I'm at work and was being lazy and didn't feel like searching through threads. But it's not that busy, so I found the thread I was looking for.

Thanks

I have a question that I didn't see answered in the other threads (or at least the ones I looked at)- I ordered a John Hancock which obviously doesn't include the BarLoc setup. I assume I can add it further down the road if I wanted to? (I understand it won't be production class level any more).

also if I have (not currently) a PVA John Hancock which version of the Barloc would I need? I assume the threaded barrel version but since this will be my first long range rifle (bolt) I'm learning about the actions and barrels.

Given PVA/ARC CS I'm sure I can get info from them but I'd rather they focus on just making more stuff so i can get mine sooner. :)

The John Hancock is a Nucleus action, so yes, you can add a Barloc down the road if you want.

You can use the Barloc for Nucleus in either threaded or shouldered barrels. The threaded Barloc is going to be compatible with Savage-style barrels (1.06" shank) and the shouldered Barloc can be used with standard 1.2" or 1.25" shank barrels, although they will still need to be chambered and headspaced by a gunsmith while accounting for the Barloc.

so I know the OE barrel is a savage small shank (1.058"-20 thread I assume), so if I wanted to use the "stock" barrel plus get another caliber (6CM or 308) I'd just get another savage small shank barrel plus the threaded barloc and a set of gauges and I'd be set? no need for the action wrench/vice setup just a torque wrench for the bolts on the barloc?

You'd be set for the new barrel, but the standard John Hancock barrel is a shouldered barrel. You'd need the action wrench, etc. to put that barrel back on.

so get a new shouldered barrel (JH or just a Nucleus prefit shouldered barrel) and the shouldered Barloc and I'm set?

My goal was to be able to have 2 calibers if I decide to change things I can do it myself. I know it's not a quick change (I have an LMT MRP with 6.8 and 5.56 barrels) but even if I change it out once a year or not at all, it would be nice to have the tools and more importantly the knowledge to carry it out myself.

thank you for the knowledge and input!

The shouldered barrel would have to be headspaced with the Barloc in mind. You can't just throw it in between the shoulder and recoil lug and torque it down.

Your existing JH barrel will not work with any Barloc, it is headspaced to the action alone.

What the shouldered Barloc is trying to accomplish is the torquing of the barrel (pre-loading the threads) without a large torque wrench and action wrench. The barrel still much be fitted to the action in the same way as a standard shouldered barrel, but taking the thickness of the Barloc into account (much like if you were to get a thicker recoil lug).

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone have recommendations for a shouldered barrel with a quick turn around time? I plan to order from PVA regardless but I'd like something sooner to hold me over since my Manner's stock is about two weeks out.

LRI's turnaround is always fast. If you need speed, they're known for it.
