Rifle Scopes School me on EOTechs

Re: School me on EOTechs

The EOtech are available using different power sources I would suggest AA battery models. They are available in night vision rated models but even the ones that are not rated for nigh vision will dial down low enough to use. EOTechs seem to use up batteries where Aimpoint Comp M4s the single AA battery seems to last forever. I prefer the 2moa aimpoints and find the reticle of the EOTech to look extremely busy. But by far my all time favorite is a Trijicon TA442 amber triangle 1.5x its always on and the point of the triangle is very precise at distance with the body of the triangle providing a bright large aiming point up close.

Re: School me on EOTechs

I do have a 3-9 AccuPoint scope and am impressed with that. I just saw a place that had the EOTechs on sale and figured I'd research it. I'll look into the Trijicon system too.

Re: School me on EOTechs

All other things being equal, I prefer Eotechs to any other comparable sight. Unfortunately, they are plagued by problems that seriously compromise their reliability. Recoil impulse damagin the battery connections is a big one. This is well documented if you do a search online, so I won't go into the boring details of every SOPMOD II and civilian 553 sight being recalled by L3.

I only use and recommend Aimpoints for reflex sights, period. Specifically, the T1 Micro, but they are all on the same level of performance so you won't go wrong with any of them. Eotech's abysmal customer service after L3's takeover is also a factor in that decision, considering I have had to return over 30 (yes, thirty) of their sights in the last 4 years.

Eotech's XPS line addresses the battery compartment as well as it gives a much smaller footprint, by using (1) CR123 battery oriented perpendicular to the bore. Still, the T1 has a battery life of 5 years versus 500 hours (likely less) for the XPS Eotech. This is a big factor for LEOs who may have their gun in their trunk for months without seeing it. Zero the Aimpoint, leave on setting 8, and it's G2G when you pick it up...in the year 2014. Something to be said for that, plus the cost of 123 or N cell batteries is in the hundreds to match what 1 CR2032 watch battery costs in a T1.

Just my $.02

Re: School me on EOTechs

I have used aimpoints and Eotechs and I love the Eotech! I have had more problems with Aimpoint and no problems with my eotechs.
Buy the 552 Eotech which uses AA batteries and is a great buy.
I have used Eotechs on LR-308s and they have never had a single issue with the recoil. Lets also think about the fact that the sister project holosites were made for shotguns and handle that recoil fine.

Re: School me on EOTechs

I have an eotech 512 and love it. The only way that I could think of improving it would be
1. Better battery life
2. Making the reticle not as grainy
