F T/R Competition Scooled again at Pendelton 600 yard match!

But this time it was expected! I didn't have any bazaar moments where I was in the X-ring and off the 6'X6' board on the next. This time I was only off by 16" at the most!, this still put me in the 8 ring on more than 3 occasions!! I now have to assume the problem on the 1K course was the puller not being able to identify my round (6.5x47) and calling a miss. This was my first time shooting this 600 yard course, and again getting a read on the wind was my biggest challenge. I am starting to see patterns though, and will start to make calculated adjustments. I was still in awe of some very consistent shooters there and really look forward to more long distance matches. A couple of things I notice, in the F-Ftr class, the Night Force hi magnification scope seems to be prevalent. Not sure if my 6-25 is holding me back, a lot are shooting 12-42, damn! Any how it was a beautiful course to shoot and if not for the damn wind, well you know. LOL

It was windy yesterday, no doubt about it. Winds by the 3rd match were running 14-18 mph from ~9:30, with gusts likely over 20 mph by the end. It was definitely a handful. As far as your scope magnification, you might want a little more at some point, but 25X will get you by, no problem. I ran mine at 42X in the 1st match, but backed it off to somewhere between 25-30X for the next two because of the mirage.

Are you planning to do the LR matches at the end of September? You ought to come out for one or both, especially because they're the last matches of the year. Most people will choose the 3x1000 on Sunday if they cannot do both. I'll be at both, so I hope to see you there. It was fun shooting with you and thanks for explaining to me what sopapillas are, I'll definitely need to try some.

BTW: who's the f---ing lump front and center in your 1st picture? That's the same troll you showed a picture of at the 1000 yd match. What, are you trying to scare away new members? (LOL)

Don't know about the first picture, but I think I might have a clue about the goon in the second, lol. Good shooting with all you guys. And Greg, after cleaning my rifle I went outside to see if I could dial my parallax down so that I could focus on a target across my lawn, and noticed that I had poor eye relief, and that to be relaxed and have a clear sight picture I had to bump the scope back ~1/2". I'm shooting with texgal338 and chansen49 on Wed and I'll give it a go then and see if that helps. I also think I might be going to Pala next week on Mon or Fri with a guy I met at South Bay. If it coincides with a time you're thinking of going shoot me a PM. -Eric

Will do. Not sure if I'll have the rifle/load I'm planning to use at Raton back by then, but if not I might bring the Crusader I had yesterday. I need all the practice I can get.

Why don't you post that on Calguns???

I think I came in last, but I did way better on my last string than my first string, and I was shooting iron sights. The wind was at 14 mph last string, and I hit an X with the first two sighters...than hit a 6 for score!!! Jesus, sometimes you can't win!! I can't Van shot a 193 with iron sights on a 223 AR!! That's very good.

Anyway, excellent pics, I would like to post them on calguns if you don't want to.
