I am installing a scope on my weatherby vanguard 257 weatherby and with medium rings i have a scope clearance of about .25mm probably 3-4 sheets of paper maybe. Is this enough or should i go with high rings. I would really rather not because of cheekweld. Thanks.

Re: Scope barrel clearance?

You might run into trouble with the bell contacting the barrel during recoil. Had a 1" tube Burris signature on a 25-06 improve t/c encore. Scope is lloonnggg. Had about as much clearance as you and ended up with the knurled pattern from the scope in the bluing of the barrel. If your scope is lighter with a larger tube and your ring is closer to the bell your tube might not flex enough to let the bell contact the barrel.

I say try it and good luck.
