Have a Savage 10 Precision Carbine in 223, going to mount a leupold vxr 3x9x40 scope. can i use the leupold two piece base that i was using with a one inch scope and use 30mm rings ??? or scrape it all and start over with something else. suggestions please

Re: Scope & Base Question

Yes you can, just that there are better rings than the Leupold standard. If you do not tighten the standard rings enough you can get ring marks, if you tighten too much yoo will get ring marks, a lot of std rings are not completely concentric and need to be lapped. If you do not do it correctly you will get ring marks.

The PRW /QRW rings and bases fit the scope tubes very well, just that they have to be snapped on and the will make you cring when you do it. The hold is very secure, and no marks.

Talley one piece are sleek and hold very well.

Warne maximima are solid steel, made in Oregon, and hold like no ones business. They also have a good price point.

Long story short, yes you can use the old bases, but why not upgrade rings with your scope.

Re: Scope & Base Question

The one piece set up will get you by. You might run into problems with eye relief. If your rings are in a set location you might not be able to push the scope forward, or pull back as far as you need. With a 1 piece pic rail and rings you have more mounting options.

Re: Scope & Base Question

You would be ok using the same base, but I would still look into getting a one piece base like the Warne Tactical. They run for ballpark $40 and have a recoil lug, which would be a nice upgrade from a two piece base. And like powell said the one piece base will give you some more mounting options.

Not sure if Warne makes one for the savage. I've only had Remington 700s so the different receiver footprint could throw some challenges.
