Re: Scope base ?

if you want to go long with the bullets....you got to get the internals in the scope to get you there (plus you must be able to see them targets out there also)

most scope erectors lash-ups only got so much......to cheat the elevation from ZERO moa bases.....one gets a 20 moa base....then re-zero the scope which then allows for more internal UP, and thus the ability to dial for them longer distances.......

Savvy ?

Re: Scope base ?

If I am wanting to go 6,7,800 out I should use the 20 moa?<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: BOLTRIPPER</div><div class="ubbcode-body">if you want to go long with the bullets....you got to get the internals in the scope to get you there (plus you must be able to see them targets out there also)

Re: Scope base ?

it really depends on the caliber, distance, and the scope you are going to use.

you mentioned 6-800 yards

on a 308 with a simmons on it, you probably don't have any choice but to go with a 20MOA scope.

a 308 with a Nightforce, USO or some other top of the line glass with a 30mm or greater maintube will be fine with a flat base.

a 6mm BR or other hot 6-6.5mm round will probably get to 1K with most optics without needing a 20MOA base.

Just make sure you are not getting a 20 MOA base because you think it's cool and then putting crummy glass with a 1" tube on top of it and shooting at 100 yards 99% of the time, that will be a waste and your erector tube won't be anywhere near center, meaning your already weak optical clarity will be degraded even further.

Re: Scope base ?

Just what I was looking for.It is a .308 and most of my budget for this rifle will be for top end glass(Nightforce,USO or S&B),just haven't made my mind up yet.Not trying to be cool, just want to get out there with one that is put together right.
Thank's guy's.This is why I ask,because I want to be sure.

Re: Scope base ?

Get the 20 MOA base. You will find away to shoot the longer distances eventually if you stay with the sport and you will have the 20 MOA base and not have to worry about whether or not you have enough elevation.
