I have BSA Contender on a 17HMR. The gun is stupid accurate but the scope has a very sticky coating. It will rub off on you if you touch it and leave black smears on your hands. Is there any way I can clean this off? Acetone or something like that? Thanks a bunch!

Re: Scope coating question.

Not sure how old your scope it, but I would call BSA and ask what it up. If you are the original owner and the scope has not been duracoated or kryloned, then I would see if they would replace it. Did you happen to get some "Gun Scrubber" cleaner on it? I have duracoated a Redfield, removed the duracoat with citristrip a year later and the original finish looks and feels the same as the day I purchased it.

Re: Scope coating question.

I hit it with some Acetone and steel wool and the stuff came right off! I don't really care for the scope, I was considering swapping my Mueller APV to the gun but I guess it'll do for now. Thanks
