Picked up my TRG 22 this weekend. I'm very excited. I have a scope (IOR 10x42 MP-8 Mil/Mil) that will work till I can do better. I have some questions about the difference scope mounting options.

I'm not really interested in the quick release mounts. I do like the looks of the 3 ring mount but I notice that some folks use a picatinny rail. My receiver is drilled/tapped for a picatinny rail.

Is one preferred over the other?

My barrel is grooved for the front sight. I would like to install the emergency sights one day. Will that make a difference on which mounting system I choose?

Also, any pics with the iron sights and scopes installed would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Hey mate.

Spuhr makes an excellent series of mounts designed to engage the 17mm dovetail on the top of the action (Can be used on Tikka also). They come in 30mm diameter, 35mm height with 7mil of incline. Or in 34mm diameter, with 35/44mm height and 7/13mil incline. https://spuhrwebshop.com/en/isms/st/

Your issue is your IOR is 30mm, and most modern tactical ones are 34mm. Unless you're after a march 3-24 or something in the future, I'd run a stopgap like tikka 30mm rings (http://www.talleymanufacturing.com/P...unt/Tikka.aspx) until you want to invest in a scope befitting the TRG.

I followed your other thread, good luck and congratulations.

Congrat it's a great rifle, I am also using the sphur mount on my TRG 42, I ordered the mount that goes directly on the rifle dovetail that way I am saving weight and potential for another weak link between the rifle and the scope, I can quietly recommand you on sphur products, as for using with a 34 mount and 30 mm scope tube, I think you can get ring diameter reducers directly from sphur and enjoy the adapger right now and when you upgrade for 34 mm scope just discard the reducers
good luck and enjoy
