So I've mounted many a scope in my day doing all the typical things that you read about on how to properly mount up a scope (e.g. hanging a plumb line, checking eye relief, proper torque settings, etc) but then after linking to the Hide article that uses the feeler gauges (well written article BTW, here's the link if you haven't read it ), there is a statement that I don't understand.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Now, when mounting the rings, be sure to apply forward pressure so that the rings butt against the forward portion of the picatinny slot they are sitting in.</div></div>
Why is this important? I guess I've always believed the opposite and sat the rings toward the rear most portion of the picatinny rail. Can somebody share the logic for why forward instead of rear?
