I am currently looking at a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 and a Millet 4-16x50 Tactical Scope for a Savage 10-FPSR rifle.

First I have already purchased the rifle and it will be here next week. I have a few others but want to work with this rifle hoping I can step up to the equipment.

Am I looking at the correct scopes for this rifle? I want to buy 2 scopes so I can later mount one on another rifle if I choose so. I think our first targets will be 100 yards then further out as we progress. Maybe up to 300 yards then we will see what happens from there.

Also which base or bases and rings would work best for the equipment I am looking at? I have not purchased the scopes and mounts but currently have some already saved on the Optics Planet page.

Thanks for any help here. This is a great site to learn the do's and dont's of shooting.

Re: Scope Mounts and Rings

Having owned a few Nikons, the glass is good, but the eye relief/focal distance can be finicky at higher power. As for the Millett, you can get better for a bit more investment.

You might want to look as some reviews on either Vortex Viper or Weaver Tactical lines. Both make nice mid-range glass with a solid return on investment.

Just hang out in the optics sale thread, there are always some killer deal on glass. BTW the Vortex vip warranty is fully transferable to the new owner.

Re: Scope Mounts and Rings

First off...welcome to the site. Secondly...nothing wrong with the nikon...got two Buckmasters with side focus on a couple of rimfire rifles. I would highly recommend you add at least one other scope to your list...and that's a Vortex Viper. There is a really strong deal offered by one of the forum sponsors here...this is what they have for a Viper 6.5-20X by 44mm:

Price: $279.99
V-Plex Wide Available
Temporarily Sold Out until the end of April
Accepting Orders for delivery as soon as that shipment arrives

Here's a link to their website: http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/vortex.pl?page=vortexviper6-20x44

I've purchased a few items from these fine folks..as well as other sponsors of this forum...you would be well served by one of our sponsors. I have the same scope as listed...but with a 50mm front objective and it is a really decent scope for the money.

Good Luck,

Wayne

+1 Viper. I have the 50mm with bdc reticule. i find it to be a really nice scope for the money. It is on my 10/22. The gang at the range likes to shoot at lollipops stuck in 2x4's (we drill little holes for the sticks) first we shoot the candy and then we shoot the sticks. I'm always amazed at how great the candies colors are! Some guys never grow up. Lol
Also You are getting the best warranty in the business!
