I am new to long range shooting as a formal hobby. I was recommended to get what works and learn how to use it before investing in anything too big. That said, I have a Remington 700 synthetic .308 that I’ve dry-fired probably thousands of times by now. I also purchased a Vortex 6-24x50 scope to mount on it. I am curious what height rings would work best for mounting a scope this size. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have or plan on getting a cheek riser?

The ideal ring high puts the optic in line with your eye,
assuming your eye is in the right place.

But if this is all totally new for you, IMHO its a mistake to assume....

I plan on doing some detail work to set it up properly. My head is not in a comfortable position on the stock as it is. I’ll do something to fix that, even if I just tape some foam onto it to raise it up. I’ll do that first and then pick rings I suppose.

Now worries, once you get your head comfy, you can start to figure out approximate ring height. Just didn't want to cut out that step. In particular for prone...🤠
