Iam looking at scopes iam on a tight budget right now .So i was looking at the redfield revolution tacmoa 3x9x40, the battle zone 6x18x44 tacmoa. Another one one i was considering was the swfa 10x 44. Mostly my farthest range would be 600 yards. I will be using this for hunting .I plan on taking some long range courses .I think they go out to a 1000 . My main purpose is punching holes & hunting. I know you get what you pay for ,but work is slow & I just want to be able to shoot my rifle.I will put a better scope on it ,when work picks up.

I helped my brother pick out a scope for his rifle, and I wound up getting him setup with the Redfield Revolution 4-12x. The BattleZones that I looked through had a lot of tunneling. The Revolutions didn't, and the they were fantastic quality with good glass. Keep in mind that the Redfield Revolution is the same scope as the Leupold VX-1, just rebranded. Leupold-backed warranty is exceptional.

That said, SWFA has a solid reputation as well. You just have to go with a fixed power to stay in your price range.

Fixed mag will be more robust than a variable and because its cheaper to make and they might have put some decent money into the components and they shouldn't get the glass wrong as its not complicated (variables have a lot more lenses and things to get right). Its repeatable tracking that you want the most investment in. Seems that SWFA is the one to go for.

x10 is what many sniper rifles of old had, many far less and they did hit stuff. Its a little too much for woodland close range and not quite enough for 1000m; but it can do it all. In fact it can do it all really well and thats because it it makes life easier as you just get on with making one good shot and not faff with all those extra bells a whistles. Dial, concentrate on the sight picture, and squeeze...follow through.
Hunting wise many variable scopes are left on x6 or x7. On the range there isn't anything you can't centre hit with a x10 scope either. It will take a .308 to 800m easily.
