If I was shooting between 400 and 700 yards, how strong should my magnification be on my scope?

I think it's personal preference, I would think a 4-16 should be more then enough.

Agree and agree. @ejennings If a bigger scope fits the rifle I’d run with more magnification. Even if you choose not to crank it to the max it’ll always be there if you want it. I run my 16” .308 with a 4-16. 6cm 6-24.

I'd recommend the Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 with the fine duplex.
