looking for someone with knowledge on scout scopes. I have a savage 340c and dont like side mount scope mounts so after talking with my smith he put the bug in my ear about turning it into a scout rifle. Needless to say the idea grew on me and now im diving head first into something i know nothing about. I did some searching and found that leupold makes a 1.5-4x28mm instead of the standard fixed 2.5 power. I plan on chambering it in 17-222 and shooting as far out as 500 yards if the wind will let me. Any input on the subject would be great
thanks

Re: scout scope help

Leupold does have some variable powered scout offerings coming out soon. However, you can get extended eye relief scopes with variable magnification setting now. I have used the Nikon 2.5-8x EER on my Marlin 1895 in scout position and it has worked great. Even more impressive is that it has held up fantastically with teh 450 marlin recoil, no problems! I didnt really need that much magnification for my load, but its nice to have when im plinking around trying to walk it out. But the Nikon EER would certainly take you to over 500 + yards.

Re: scout scope help

You can get both the Leupold Scout 2.5x or the 1.5-4x through the Leupold custom shop w/ many reticle and turret choices. They can do a custom bdc reticle for your load w/ hold overs out to 500 or they can do a CDS turret and u can dial. Nick-
