On my original post for my SDMR build (link below) I said I would repost when I took it out past the 100 yard range.

Took it out to 500 yards just using XM193 and iron sights (no optics) on a stable rest. Target was 2 pieces of high visibility orange piece of poster board stapled together on some plywood. 5 round group with good grouping for mil-spec ammo. This was the only group I fired. White tacks in holes.

BH 69 GR match is the best performer. I posted on last thread this 5 shot group shot at 100 yards with day optic and rest.

Here's pic of the rifle with a trijicon optic (irons only @ 500 YD range target above)

Here's the range and 500 yards is at the very end. Long way off.

The results are excellent and repeatable. No wind, a very accurate rifle, and skill don't hurt either.

Damn good job!

One of the reasons the AMU and the old-school National Match Course use ten-shot groups is to help predict and determine on-demand gun-ammo-shooter performance potential.

Center up the group and you will be reasonably sure of killing a man-sized target to 500, even with M193.

This particular group is very, very good and something to be proud of. As I've said before, a good performance from a good gun, good ammo, and driven by a trained shooter isn't magic -- but it takes work.

Confidence-at-arms isn't something that comes from unwrapping a gun in a box.

Thanks gents. Anybody you ever seen a rifle/ammo combination same shooter where MOA results were better at a longer range that shorter? I know grouping is not always linear and bullets can "go to sleep" and possible MOA groups further can be better ...anybody?
