Recently picked up a Savage 10TR on impulse. This weekend I was getting ready to load up some rounds so I did a rough estimate on measuring the chamber for bullet seating depth (put cleaning rod down barrel from muzzle on a closed bolt, marked it, then rod down again but on a round that was barely seated in brass and pushed forward until I felt some resistance, marked it).

Measurement came to 2.78, which seems short to me. Is this something I shoudl be concerned about? Bullet is a 165 grain Hornady SST, brass is winchester that was full length resized in a Lee die. I loaded up one at 2.75 OAL, and I still feel like I"m getting an ever so slight resistance when chambering... should I be concered about that?

Not tried the homemade deal but i picked up a Hornady Lock n Load Curved OAL guage. Works like a charm when used with Calibre specific hornady modified case. I'm getting COAL of 2.835 on my AR10 match rock5r in .308. A buddy was getting 2.95 in his spec Rem700 with a 5r. Supposedly back of the measurement .011-.020 and your in zen oal. Fixin to head out with some custom lengthed cartridges soon to see if that tightens the groups.

Of course those measurement will be bullet specific. Need to measure for each bullet type/weight.
