Seating depth

I have read about how many work on changing seating depth after deciding on the best powder load and have a couple questions.

1: How far do you change the OAL between test loads? For example if I have a load that is 2.80 OAL would I work up 3 identical loads at 2.75, 2.80, 2.85? Less change?

2: What is your process for mag fed rifles? For example if I am restricted to max OAL of 2.8, how far back should I try to seat rounds?

I hope I explained my question properly. Thanks for any input.

I literally just did a test like this today except for I started at 2.800 and then went up in 0.010" increments. I found a slightly better load point but honestly they weren't much different at all. I think that once you do an OCW test and find a good load you're probably good enough for most of what we do here. This isn't a benchrest site after all. :) Take a look at my results here:

Thats what I was thinking BH. I suppose it could change results slightly, but a noticeable difference I could shoot, I dont think so.

That was my thought both before and after testing the theory. It didn't take too very long to do the test and I'm going to change my load a little but meh I'm not so sure that its made much of a difference. However that being said as my throat erodes I think that moving out a bit is going to be a good way to keep things the same. I'm at just about 3500 rounds through this tube so its probably at least eroded a little bit.
