Hello all, I have an AX 308 that should be here soon and am planning on building another bolt gun on a Surgeon action in the near future, so both of these rifles will have 20 MOA bases. I have a Schmidt and Bender 3-20 with the Horus H59 that i just got word will be on its way soon.

I was planning on getting a Zero MOA Spuhr mount but Ive been advised to get a 20 MOA Spuhr mount to get the max. elevation adjustment out of the scope when I dial. Ive been told this scope has enough adjustment to zero with this setup. This would put me at a 40 MOA setup just with the mounting option. I am debating if I should go with the Zero or the 20 MOA Spuhr mount.

My question is, if the scope will zero with this setup, is there any downside to doing this? Or is this too much?

Also, is there any sort of optical distortion with this much cant due to the scope tilted down and your eye no longer looking through the centerline of the optic?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Not sure about the 3-20, but the 5-25 is actually designed for 45 MOA of cant. The S&B can probably handle 40 no problem.

Re: Seeking help with Spuhr Mount Question

Simple answer, you will have no problems. In fact, I have 50 moa of cant (20 moa Spuhr and 30 moa Badger rail), and my Schmidt 5-25 and Hensoldt 4-16 have worked perfectly. I would opt for the 20 moa Spuhr.

Re: Seeking help with Spuhr Mount Question

I have no experince of the 3-20.
But when using 5-25 you will recognise that the picture is not round But oval in its both extreme adjustments. ( in both end of the travel)

This is the price for an extremely good elevation travel and not really a problem.
At a .338 LM or 50 the Gun will likely not be used very much on 100 yards anyway. But for a Gun that Will be used mostly on 100-300 and never over 1000-1200 i would go for the 20 Moa and this Way avoid the ovalpicture on 100-300 meters.
With a 20 Moa base you would likely have around 20 mils of availible elevation.
