Hello everyone I’m interested in building a 300wsm specifically for competition. It won’t necessarily be an F class build it’ll be closer to a 1000 yard benchrest build. I would like to hear peoples experience with the cartridge. Details like what barrel length to go with. Should I go with 215 bergers versus 220 bergers. Suggested on powders, primers. What’s the expected barrel life. What speeds are achievable with a 29 inch or longer barrel. Pretty much all your standard questions for somebody who has never messed with that cartridge before.

If you are going to try and avoid the steep end of the learning curve, then find the gunsmith(s) that builds competition rifles and let them coordinate your build. Visit a club or range and get with the folks who compete. They will mentor you and you can avoid the frustrations.

A 300 WSM is not an entry level 1000 yard rig (but it is a good one for windy days), so let them tell you what the reamer, brass, bullet recipe is for a coordinated rig.
