Shit!

Maybe he was intimidated by having to be eclipsed by Mattis, Kelly and Dunford.

POTUS can find a LCPL with the balls and brains to do it if Harwood won't.

Actually that's kind of douchey of me.

If the guy feels it's time to stop serving he has given enough. If his Lockheed job is what is best for him and his family than I hope he is very successful at it. Lockheed is lucky.

I'm not entirely surprised by this development. Trump's presidency is going to be plagued by resistance. The sabotage that we've seen so far is nothing, in less than a month, compared to what we could see over the course of four years. Perhaps Harward wants no part of that. Or, perhaps Harward decided that he's found his path and is content. You'd have to be as crazy as Kilgore to surf this beach right now, and probably crazier still to stay on PBR Street Gang and go up the river. But somebody will take the mission, so long as it doesn't become vitiated up the food chain. Shit might break out well before we get to Cambodia.

McChrystal - Went anti gun after Newtown (unless you are military you have no need for an AR) and after he had been slapped down by Obama, and likely warned about the particulars of his NSA file, he became more agreeable with what Obam had going on particularly regarding destruction of the second amendment.

clear your thoughts on the matter and re-read your post and the 'yahoo news' 'artical' and tell me where I went wrong.

Fair enough and mea culpa, that was the wrong article for my statement. The first article I read about the event explained he had real reservations about the clarity of command lines, he didn't like what he'd heard about the level of cohesion in the team and that he couldn't bring his team on board. I usually hunt out a few different news sources to 'triangulate' something like this and I linked to the most benign article.

So my bad. However, I'm pretty sure meth and cross burnings are not without your spheres of influence... :)

Thinking about this.....

If you are trained as a Navy SEAL I don't think you look at chaos as something to avoid but more as a challenge to overcome. He has worked with Mattis before and likely others in the administration. I think he is aware of what is going on.

Second if you are working for Lockheed, which is funded by government contracts, and you were an Admiral, does it make sense to make news by saying you turned down the job because you think the Presidents Administration is in chaos? Would you embarrass the POTUS and put your present employer at risk of losing money?

This guy wasnt MeAgain Kelly.

I think you're mixing things that don't mix. Chaos in admin isn't a 'challenge to overcome'... I think he is/was well aware of what's going on. Also, he heads up the UAE division - the A-rabs are his source of funds. It seems the Presser turned him off and the lack of autonomy over staff and the intermingling of political advisers into the security apparatus. Anyway, that's what's being reported. Who the fuck knows.

Show of hands....

Who was turned off by the presser?

I kind of think Trumps criticisms are valid and say what you want the guy is willing to take real questions (not softballs) and can provide reasonable answers without a teleprompter or earpiece and while interjecting some humor and emotion.

The only reason the presser could be viewed as a turn off is because we are used to these things being a dog and pony show scripted for a certain result. The press is still working toward a certain result but Trump is not following their script.

The only thing that concerns me is that the admin may be meddling with choice of staff. Whoever is appointed should be able to pick their staff. Based on what is going on I believe Trump should reserve the right to veto a choice though if that choice appears to be partial to the establishment.

Im glad to hear Petraeus has put out the message he doesn't want the consideration.

PS - The family angle seems reasonable. Mattis was his CO at one point. Mattis is staying. Ill put more weight toward the chaos theory if Mattis, Kelly, others start leaving.

Selling overpriced shit to the UAE or the USA Lockheed still is not going to have one of their employees embarrass the POTUS. Im sure he was in contact with his family, friends, the HR/Legal department at Lockheed and his own conscience when he made his decision. He is not going to diminish himself or his employer by embarrassing POTUS. If he thinks the organization is failing why not defer politely and let it fail of its own weight?

He's not come out and said "it's a shit show' directly. All the press on this has been 'sources'. So, yes, there's doubt because everyone's a liar now.

Me personally, the presser was entertaining but Trump's clearly nuts. I remember folks getting bent out of shape about Obama not being presidential etc. That presser was to talk about Acosta. Instead, it became about anything and everything other than Acosta. It's about Trump, it's about how unfairly he's treated or about how he's [insert whatever]...

My personal experience is that the leaders who spend more time talking about themselves than anything else are leaders to avoid. Look at Mattis' first communication to his team. THAT'S a leader.

Again, my own views on the matter. Re: Harward, only known FACT is that he's not going to take the job. That's a shame from everything I've read about the guy, it's our loss.

I don't blame the guy. It doesn't matter who you are, you'll be under the microscope and every act you've ever done in your life will be twisted for the left's agenda. Why would someone who isn't already in politics want to put themselves and their family through that?

maybe he didn't like the 5 year moratorium on taking jobs with contractors and consultants that milk the government and us for everything they can after they leave service. On the other hand if you guys are calling him corrupt and a pussy for not being able to withstand the gauntlet of a bunch of snowflakes, well,, I think that might be off base since he seems to be the only seal not to have written a book on securing a school crossing zone in south Baghdad or some other shit.

No one was ever more cruelly type cast as Ned.......

Movie director - "Hey this story has an ass rape! Someone call Ned Beatty's agent and see if he is available."
