Getting together a shopping list to order my first reloading setup and was unsure on something. I'm ordering a comparator set, the one I'm looking at doesn't have headspace gauges. Can I use regular comparator bushings to measure shoulder bump and headspace or do I need a set of headspace gauges to?

I'm sure I'll have more questions about my list too, but that's it for now

The comparators come in two flavors... one is going to center on the Ogive of the bullet. The other on the shoulder area.

For me, I only really use the ogive bullet comparators. I full length size all my brass every time. I shoot my shit in an assortment of rifles. If you're going to be doing shoulder bumps, you'll need the headspace comparator to measure that.

But that's just my take on it.

Wait for some other people to chime in. I've only been reloading for like 5 years, and I'll admit that I'm a bit lazy about the prep process. So there are for sure going to be people that measure and prep more than I do. They will have good reasons to do what they do as well, you may want to consider that route as well.

Yes, you will want the shoulder bushing to measure the the shoulder. You will want the bullet bushing to measure the bullets. You want both types of comparators.

This.

I actually just build my own but I believe it’s absolutely a necessary tool for high level reloading.
