Does anyone have a recommended max barrel diameter, length and weight for a Remington short action to be used for a magnum round?

I had a 28" long full 1.25" bull barrel on a 22-250 Ackley once action and 1" of the barrel in front of the lug was bedded and the thing shot great till the bore shot out.
I know a guy that has a 30" MTU conture in 300WSM built on a short action Savage and it shoots great also.
As long as its bedded properly I think the action is stiff enough to handel a pretty big barrel

hi a number 7 profile barrel 30" long will fit it is 1.250" at the Knoxx form for 4" then straight taper to 1" at 30" long but a realy good profile is the rem sendaro profile it works well if you make the barrle to heavy it will not ballance well and will make it harder to shoot. another option is a heavy palma profile they are perfect for the magnum cartriges on a rem 700 short action with a magnum cartrige look at rock creek barrel profiles and the heavy palma.

Thanks guys. I already have a Lawton barrel on my single shot 300WSM. I will be replacing it soon and wanted to cut it down and make a short action repeater. It sounds like it will work out great. Thanks again.

As stated in the first article, for a 300 Win Mag, cut it down to 22 inches.

Those are some interesting articles and they really have me thinking, thank you. However, my big concern was hanging too much weight of the action and causing issues. I'm going to leave myself some room to shoot the heavy bullets so I think 24" is where I'm going to cut. I'll be sure to bed a couple inches of the barrel to relieve any stress.
